If you've got a recent iPhone, you may have noticed that the line under each email in your inbox isn't the first line of the email any more. It's a one-line summary, written by the phone.
That's Apple Intelligence. It's been available since iOS 18 on newer iPhones, but iOS 27, due in September, turns it on by default. So from next month, a lot more of the people your WordPress site emails will see Apple's summary before they see anything you wrote.
Here's what that means in practice.
Your preview text is gone. The phone reads the whole email and picks out what it thinks matters. Usually it gets it right. Sometimes it grabs a line from the footer, or summarizes a receipt in a way that sounds like there was a problem with the order. You can't control what it says, and there's no setting on your end to opt out.
Your From name matters more. iOS 27 also sorts mail into tabs (Primary, Transactions, Updates, Promotions), and the new Siri can delete every email from a sender in one request. An email from "WordPress" or "admin" is easy to sort wrong and easy to delete without a second thought. An email from your business name isn't.
And two things you can do about it this week.
First, read your own emails the way the phone does. Open your email log, or send yourself a test of each email your site sends, and look at the first two sentences. If the useful bit (the order number, the reset link, "we got your message") is buried under a greeting, move it to the top. A summary of an email that gets to the point will also get to the point.
Second, make sure the From name for emails from your website is set to your site or business name, not the WordPress default. In WP Mail SMTP that's one field under Settings, and it can apply to every email your site sends.
